Oh the way you used to look at me. Oh the way you used to look at me. Like an old Trans Am on the road. Like an old Trans Am going down the road. Oh the things you used to say to me. Yeah the way you used to talk to me. From a whisper to a laugh. From a whisper to a laugh. Today I saw a Pontiac in a dusty yard by the track. Waiting for someone to bring it back. Waiting for someone to bring it back. The memory of your summer sheets. And the way you used to look at me. Like an old Trans Am on the road. Like an old Trans Am going down the road. You’re gonna bury me.

well I used to love you but I swear that I love you more now. I used to love you but I swear I love you more now. Let’s move to Wisconsin. We will never grow old. We’ll die young and pickled and viciously cold. And our friends will drive our cars, right off the road. Let’s move to Wisconsin we will never grow old. Oh Mother of Jesus, I don’t want to grow old. Oh Mother of Jesus, I don’t want to die cold. We are hardly thirty and I am two thirds of a man. But you’re two times a woman the way you spill out my hands. Let’s get down and dirty, I’ll be your filthy old man. Let’s get down and dirty, I’m your filthy old man. Come on dance with me, dance with me put your feet up into the air. Do the Wisconsin polka get some sweat up into your hair. Dance with me, dance.

I’m a filthy old man. I’m a filthy old man who picks you up after school. I’m a filthy old man you date cause you’ve got nothing better to do. And it will kill me when we finally have to go and break apart. I’m a filthy old man. I’m a filthy old man your dad would like to shoot. I’m a filthy old man who made a woman out of you. But baby you got my heart. And it will kill me when we finally have to go and break apart. And I can barely stand. I can barely stand cause I know that you’ll be leaving me soon.

You and me tripping past the candles of eternity. No one else around us it was Christmas Eve. You said I could never survive love. Hand in hand shivering and hungry in a foreign land. Walking in our shoes that could not block the cold. I said I’m not ready to let go. And oh the way we talked was so torrid, always on the cliffside of despair. And oh the thoughts we had were so empty, nothing but a constant stream of air. Food and sleep, waking up to music in a new city. No one there to tell me I was suffering. Nothing but the rising of the sun. O-bla-di, pain is like an overwhelming melody. You forget the beauty of humanity. Then that melody is finally gone. All my genuflections were so boring, conscience truly wasted on the young. And let’s just leave the opera to Florence, man needs so much more in life than love. Oh when all your nerve endings are telling you to hide. Oh even if it’s just pretending, if you can just lie to yourself you might survive. Oh the universe is endless, I know this but I know that you still gave me a little bit of warmth and some light.

It’s no longer evening. All the clean bedded people are sleeping. And somebody somewhere in a bedroom upstairs is running his hands over sheets, and he’s wishing he was asleep. And I’m dancing with you. And it’s one step one step step two. And I can’t even feel my shoes. And somebody somewhere in a bedroom upstairs is waiting for you. You you say you’ve been drinking. But I know you ain’t had a drink. As you pull closer to me. There’s someplace that you’re supposed to be. And it’s four in the morning. Even the lightbulbs are going . As we move along to the tune. There’s so much that I’d like to do. But he’s up there waiting for you. And I’m dancing with you. And it’s one step one step step two. And I can’t even feel my shoes.

When your father bought that Harley Davison and headed South and headed South. When your father bought that Harley Davidson, and your mama was sleeping on the couch. We messed around. There’s nothing sacred in the summer. Nothing sacred in a laid off town. Nothing keeping that old house up. Waiting for the roof to fall down. We messed around. All night when we were breathing words. The air so heavy and sweet. All night when we were breathing words I heard your mom she never fell asleep. And I thought I heard a prayer once. You said you heard your mother pray once. You said she wasn’t praying now. When your father bought that Harley Davidson and headed South and headed South we messed around.

Why you gotta leave the lights on? Why you gotta kiss me for so long? Why you gotta stare at me, I ain’t changed, get on with it, baby get on. Get on with it. Get on with it. Get on with it baby get on. What’d you say to your other man today. What’s the reason we are running away. What’s your life like when you wake what do you say when you ain’t running out with me. Why you gotta leave the lights on. Why you gotta kiss me for so long? Why you gotta stare at me, I ain’t changed, get on with it baby get on. Oh and I hear the interstate and it’s rolling. It’s rocking the bed just like you. There’s a thousand people going to someone else and just like you they end up at home, and me you know I ain’t never gonna be alone. Get on with it, get on with it little lady. Your car is outside with mine. When you’re done you will dry and you will head on home to your man who gets to hold you through the night. And he thinks he has you so he holds on real tight. Get on with it. So rock rock rock rock me little lady. Rock me you still got that jelly roll. Rock rock rock rock me baby, but turn the lights out, turn the lights out when you go.

Folk Jesus 06:43
More than Jesus rises up in Easter. More than Jesus rises in the spring. Jesus died. He came back alive. And so has my tired ding-a-ling. I loved you baby since I saw you. I love to hear you when you come. He may be my confessor. But you know me better. Let’s go upstairs and have some fun. We ain’t gonna live forever. We ain’t rising when we die. But you and me together we’re like heaven only wetter. Let’s live it up while we’re alive.

about

This is meant to be part two of our last album, The Sun’s Gotta Shine. It is especially this music that we used in part of our late night sets at The Conor Byrne Pub in Seattle, Washington, at the Columbia City Theatre, the Blue Moon, and the Sunset Tavern. Thanks to Levi Fuller at Ball of Wax and Greg Vandy from KEXP’s show The Roadhouse for encouragement on these specific songs. Again, thanks to our friends who paid money and devoted the energy for our two and three hour very late night sets. These are the songs we played at those specific times, (sometimes we openly referred to those moments as “dogass” music).

More about this music:

This is a digital recording, like The Sun’s Gotta Shine. Colin J. Nelson recorded everything. Colin and Bart produced the record. Through digital recording, we were able to overdub vocals, and Peter Colclasure flew from his new home in California to contribute his accordion and piano playing—in the eight hours between his arrival and a large concert we had to pay for his plane ticket.

about

The Foghorns Seattle, Washington

Landing in Seattle via Iceland, Wisconsin and Brooklyn, The Foghorns are a very late night folk and roots rock octet. Bart Cameron writes the songs, a rag tag choir (nicknamed Bucket o Bourbon Choir), provides harmonies, rhythm, and broken glass, and Lauren Trew demonstrates the bass clarinet should be part of rock. While insane touring decreased in 2012, live shows are still a focus. ... more
