Apocalypse (for Alan Wilson) When the dogs forget to bark And the leaves no longer stir And you do not know the reason that you hurt When you can no longer read Because you cannot clear your eyes Do not hide. Do not hide. Do not hide. Don’t wait for the apocalypse Do not hold out to the end. Before it all gets too much for you to stand Come back to me again. They may never rebuild the new temple. There may be only be the end. It’s hard to call a game what you cannot win. But every second that you take Every day you wake Gives life to the fight A little light to the night I’m holding out through the apocalypse I will be there to the end Even though I cannot stop it And I refuse to pretend, I will not give in. When you hear the dogs and they are screaming And the trees they’re starting to burn And if you’ve had enough of this Earth you feel like leaving. Turn to the moon. I’ll turn to you. Turn to the moon.

40 Watt Light My neighbors won’t talk they don’t even know me. Everybody’s just trying to sleep and survive the morning. They don’t stay up all night. They don’t know the glare of your headlights. My neighbors aren’t the type to tell stories. If you see my 40 watt light, drive on by. If you see my window is white, drive on by. I’m tired and bone cold frozen; oh lord I feel so damn lonesome. See my 40 watt light, drive on by. I can’t make it to the bar this December. Cause it costs too much and only brings up your memory. And it’s not like a George Jones song. bThere’s no melody for humming along. Only makes the nights feel never-ending. But I got a bed, room and radiator. And the walls are thin but sometimes I put on a record. And this light bulb shining, shining bare, shining like a fading star. When I close my eyes swear I hear your car. If you see my 40 watt light, drive on by. If you see my window is white, drive on by. I’m tired and bone cold frozen; oh lord I feel so damn lonesome. See my 40 watt light, drive on by.

Queen of Decatur Green carpet yellow sheets and a bedspread of orange and brown A dresser who’s using a dresser here? It almost feels like a put down. Two glasses next to the sink with covers that say they are clean. And a map, a map on the door that tells us how we should flee, how we should flee. You wouldn’t know it’s a holiday outside The highway doesn’t change This is no place to live a second life Everybody knows our names But in this hotel surrounded by parking lot I feel we can say That if things don’t get any better One night the two of us together Feels right. Some days I cannot breathe. Some days I survive just by thinking Of you a mailman’s daughter. Of you the Queen the Queen the Queen of Decatur. The Rolling Stones once passed beneath that big white neon sign. What do you think Mick Jagger would do with a bucket of ice? Civilization ended before this carpet ever was stained. I never had anything before you. Before you I was less afraid. Gideon’s Bible king-sized bed snow falling on a green roof. We’re on the second floor but still I can smell the pool. The dreams I have are things that my parents told me were truths. I wish that I could believe them. But they didn’t know the ending. I wish I could believe them.

Boy on the Bus Again I can’t sleep without you kid I don’t need a lover’s kiss Like I need to hear your breathing Turn on a movie cause I want to think less Director puts a child near death He knows his Hitchcock. He knows to make the ladies scream. Camera rolls the plot wears thin. Replace the child with some woman’s skin Cause they need something for the men. I want to break the screen. I can’t take another scene like this today A boy on the bus a bomb and a leading man. Washed on the shore a toddler in his shoes. Face in the sand next to a soldiers boots. There is no meaning. I need to hear your breathing. I can’t sleep without you kid I don’t need a lover’s kiss Like I need to hear your breathing I can’t sleep without you kid I don’t need a lover’s kiss Like I need to hear your breathing

Sean's Gone 03:14
Sean’s Gone He tells the same story tonight He calls me Sean. Says you were always looking for a fight You were always like your mom. And he says that old car wasn’t worth it And just so you know Better a dozen busted Buicks than a broken home. And when I take his tray he stops Looks down at my shoes and says Sean’s gone. Blue bottle flies, he says. I swear I hear blue bottle flies. I can’t see them but I hear them They’re louder when I close my eyes. He says my wife and my child is dead. I hear flies buzzing by my head. I’m not the first old man to wet this bed. And he says you know that you look me in the eyes. You are the only one who looks me in the eyes. You know when you look me in the eyes I forget about the flies. Kid you make it easier to die. Sean’s gone.

You Moved Me 04:25
You Moved Me You moved me Ah honey you moved me Half across the world To try to start a new life. You moved me You sent the shiver through me I never felt so alive I never felt so alive. In the city, on the street at dawn In the city, on my feet until dawn. In the city, I walked on the streets until dawn. I miss the city. I miss the city. You bruised me Ah honey you bruised me. Now I flinch to the touch. Now I flinch to the touch. You bruised me. Now nothing feels as new to me. But I still get up. I still get up. In the city We heard the sirens at dawn. In the city, we heard the sirens ‘til dawn. In the city, we listened to the sirens until dawn. I miss the city. I miss the city. You moved me. You bruised me. You moved me. You moved me.

Night of the Comet You can just stay here, if you want to stay here. You can just stay here, if you want to stay here. You can’t get laid here, but you can try to pray here. It’s the last arcade on the street. It’s the end of the 1980s and somehow you’re alive. Omega Man had a drunkard’s conviction. He sprayed the air with machine gun benedictions. But he never spoke for me. He never spoke for me. Just to hear him made it hurt to breathe. The days here blend into days here. The days here stack onto days here We knew that we were the end of the empire Nothing as dignified as a ray of light I found my peace in a scream queen The decimation of man is a happy ending

If You Wake in the Morning Police take your belt, they take your shoestrings. They take your fingerprints and they give you a warning. If you wake in the morning, they’ll take your pride. They say you don’t look like you belong here. If you want to get along here you better simmer down. You better think about the folks that built this town. I got an uncle in a two exit town. When he goes to leave, he puts his foot down. He drives a Cadillac. When he had his heart attack he switched to beer. Spent my money on books and then Went away for an education. I got an education. Police take your belt, they take your shoestrings. They take your fingerprints and they give you a warning. If you wake in the morning, they’ll take your pride.

about

The Foghorns Seattle, Washington

Landing in Seattle via Iceland, Wisconsin and Brooklyn, The Foghorns are a very late night folk and roots rock octet. Bart Cameron writes the songs, a rag tag choir (nicknamed Bucket o Bourbon Choir), provides harmonies, rhythm, and broken glass, and Lauren Trew demonstrates the bass clarinet should be part of rock. While insane touring decreased in 2012, live shows are still a focus. ... more
